These days to meet the crop’s nutrient requirement, many farmers follow organic approaches and prepare different types of organic manures at the farm level. And it can be applied once in every 2 to 3 months, but it can only be effective when green-manures or bio-wastes are also applied in large quantities in the orchard.

Plant-based wastes are chopped into small pieces of 10 cm and heaped. The heap should be mixed with cow dung slurry @ 10 kg / 100 kg of waste and kept for two weeks and water sprinkled on it daily. After 2 weeks it is transferred into a cement tank or a trench with 1-meter width. Over this, newly chopped plant waste material is added in a layer up to 10 – 15 cm height and followed by a 2 cm layer of cow dung is added. On top of this 1000 earthworms per square meter are released. In 60 days fine granular vermi-compost is prepared. Applying 8 kg vermi-compost per plant per year meets the complete recommended Nitrogen requirement of the plant and improves soil health.

For treating with Trichoderma, Cow dung manure should be in well decomposed powdered form and should not be producing any heat. Such FYM should be heaped under shade and 1 kg of Trichoderma should be applied for every 50 to 100kg of FYM and mixed well. After mixing, the heap should be covered with areca or coconut leaf or with paddy straw and water should be sprinkled. Once in 4 to 5 days mulching should be removed and the heap should be mixed well and put back the mulching and sprinkle water again. In about 2 weeks the FYM mixture will be ready for applying into the field.

10 kg of fresh cow dung, 2 kg of black jaggery, 2 kg flour of any pulses, all this should be mixed and dissolved separately in water and then all these dissolved solutions should be poured into 200 litters barrel. To this barrel add 10 litters of cow urine, ½ kg of disease-free humus-rich topsoil and then the remaining space in the barrel is filled with water. This 200 litters solution is stirred with a wooden stick 3 times a day and stirring is done only in the clockwise direction and the barrel should be kept in shade and the top should be covered with gunny bag. Stirring should be done for 7 days and from the 8th day the solution can be used to pour on the basin around the tree.

Waste Decomposer is a microorganism culture developed by the National Centre of Organic Farming. It is available in Organic research centers, KVK, and also available on Amazon and Flipkart, sold in 30ml bottles. Take 200 litters of water in a barrel and dissolve 2 kg of natural Jaggery and then put one 30ml bottle of waste decomposer extract into the barrel, stir well with a wooden stick 2 times a day and the barrel should be kept in shade and the top should be covered with gunny bag. After 5 days the solution turns creamy white in colour and then it is ready to apply into the field or compost pits. It is used for quick composting of organic waste, soil health improvement, and also as a plant protection agent.
