Description: It is a financial inclusion scheme with multiple benefits like banking, saving, remittance, credit to insurance, and pension. A savings bank account can be opened with zero balance. Eligibility:
- A person who is above 10 years of age is eligible to open the account in any bank under this scheme.
- Applicant must be a citizen of India.
Document required to open an account a) Passport,,driving licence, Permanent Account Number (PAN) Card,Voter’s Identity Card issued by Election Commission of India, b) Job card issued by NREGA duly signed by an officer of the State Government, c) The letter issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India containing details of name, address and Aadhaar number, or d) Any other document as notified by the Central Government in consultation with the Regulator:
Provided that where simplified measures are applied for verifying the identity of the clients the following documents shall be deemed to be officially valid documents:— I) Identity card with applicant’s Photograph issued by Central/State Government Departments, Statutory/Regulatory Authorities, Public Sector Undertakings, Scheduled Commercial Banks, and Public Financial Institutions; II) letter issued by a Gazetted officer, with a duly attested photograph of the person.
Process: 1.Applicant should go to the nearest bank branch or contact Bank Mitras (Banking Correspondents) with required documents. 2. Each bank has Bank Mitras deployed in places where the bank’s branches are not available. 3. If the applicant already has an account, he/she can request the bank to transfer it to Jan Dhan Yojana.
