In order to empower women and promote economic development, the Government of India has announced the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative, which aims to provide skill training to 2 crore women across the country. The programme, which was earlier implemented in a limited number of states, is now trying to expand its scope and impact at the national level.
Purpose of Lakhpati Didi Yojana The aim of this government initiative is to connect 1 lakh 25 thousand women of the state with self-help organizations to make them self-reliant, financially prosperous and self-reliant. The campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2023. The programme strives to improve the social and economic status of women as well as for community development and family stability.
Features of Lakhpati Didi Yojana:
- Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) will get drones for agricultural purposes. The initiative seeks to empower women from rural communities using technology and bring about a transformation in the agriculture sector.
- About 15,000 women self-help groups (SHGs) will be trained to operate and maintain drones.
- This training will not only open up new avenues for employment generation for women, but will also equip them with state-of-the-art skills.
- Drones can be able to bring about change in agriculture by monitoring crops and controlling pests.
- Under this programme, women will be trained in skills such as production of LED bulbs () and water supply system and modern technology.

- Passport size photograph of the applicant’s wife
