Pradhan Mantri Peek Vima Yojana

This scheme aims to provide insurance coverage and financial support to the farmers in the event of failure of any of the notified crop as a result of natural calamities, pests & diseases. Eligibility : 1. Applicant must own farmland or be a lessee of farmland growing the notified crops in the notified areas are eligible for coverage. 2. State of residence= Maharashtra

Process : This scheme is compulsory for loanee farmers and voluntary for non-loanee farmers. Online Process:

  1. To register online as a farmer under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, log on to Crop Insurance Website and fill all the required details.
  2. Land and bank details are required to be filled to receive the amount under PMFBY.
  3. After the farmers fill the complete form and submit, an application number will be provided using which they can track, modify or print their application in future.
  • Coverage of Crops: Food crops (Cereals, Millets and Pulses), Oilseeds, Annual Commercial / Annual Horticultural crops
  • The State-wise cut off dates for different crops shall be based on Crop Calendar of major crops (Link Below)
  • The Scheme shall be implemented on an ‘Area Approach basis’ that is a defined area. For major crops, the defined area be Village/Village Panchayat level and for minor crops it may be a block or district depending upon the requirement.

Offline Process:

  1. Farmer would have to collect the insurance proposal form or claim form from the taluka agriculture office or cooperative bank or primary agricultural credit society or an agent of the National Insurance Company Limited.
  2. Filled form would have to be submitted to any of the four authorities with required documents.
  3. Collect the premium receipt.

*Insurance cover would be provided to farmers in the following two scenarios: i) If a crop’s yield for the season is less than the threshold yield determined for the taluka by the government. In this case, the statistics are sent by the agriculture department to the insurance company and the insurance cover is deposited to all the affected farmers’ bank accounts. ii) If there are any localised disasters leading to crop loss such as natural fire, lightning strike, hailstorm, hurricane, floods, landslide, drought, break in rainfall, pests, diseases etc. In this case, the affected farmer must intimate the insurance company by calling on its toll-free number – 1800 200 7710 – within 48 hours of the disaster having taken place. If the call doesn’t get through then intimation must be given to the bank. Then, affected area would be examined by the insurance company and agriculture department officials to calculate the insurance cover that the farmer is entitled to. The insurance cover so decided would be transferred to the bank account of the beneficiary farmer. Benefit : Insurance cover for crop loss on low premium rates
