Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (Central)

Description : This is an accidental Insurance scheme for people in the age group 18-70 years. It provides insurance of ₹ 200000 in case of death/complete Disability and ₹ 100000 in case of partial disability, at a premium of ₹ 20 (auto-debited) from the policyholder’s account (linked with Aadhar). It is a one-year (1st June to 31st July) cover, renewable from year to year.Eligibility : 1. Age of the individual should be between 18-70 years. 2. Applicant must have a bank account. (In case they don’t have a Bank Account, they can open a new Bank Account and then apply for Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana)Process : Offline mode :

  1. Only those beneficiaries that have a savings account are eligible to apply for the scheme.
  2. Applicant needs to visit nearest bank/India Post branch.
  3. Fill the application form and submit it in the respective branch.
  4. Deposit ₹ 20, which is the annual premium, into the account before May 31st of a given year and give consent for auto-debit facility. If the beneficiary joins after May 31st of a given year, full annual deposit has to be made on the day of enrollment.
    *It is necessary to link your Aadhar card with the bank account to avail benefits under the scheme.

Online mode :

  1. Login to the bank/ India Post website.
  2. Once logged in, find a section namely ‘Social security schemes’ in my account section, click it.
  3. Clicking on it will open a new page, click on the ‘apply’ where select the scheme name and your account number. Note: to apply for the scheme, select it from the drop-down list.
  4. After selecting the required information, hit the submit button.
  5. Clicking on the submit button will open another page, where to select the CIF number, select it and hit the submit button.
  6. Now, the online application form will open up, enter the details. Basic details will already be present in the online form, enter details like nominee details.
  7. After the online application is duly filled, hit the submit button.
  8. Successful registration message along with the reference number.
  9. The status of the application can be checked by using ‘status’ tab.

For Claims : Steps to be taken by the Nominee:

  1. The nominee has to approach the respective branch wherein the Member (Life insured / Policyholder) was having the ‘Savings Account’ through which he/she was covered under PMSBY, along with the death certificate of the member.
  2. The nominee has to collect Claim Form and Discharge receipt, from the Bank or any other designated source like insurance company branches, hospitals, insurance agents etc.,
  3. The nominee has to submit duly completed Claim Form, Discharge Receipt, death certificate along with photocopy of the canceled cheque of the nominee’s account (if available) OR the account details to the Bank wherein the Member was having the ‘Savings Account’ through which he/she was covered under PMSBY. (In case the Nominee is a minor, the Guardian / Appointee may fill claim form and discharge receipt)
  • Each bank has a collaboration with different insurance agencies; the bank will further guide you in case of claims.Benefit : Accidental insurance cover of upto ₹ 200000
